1850’s Large Mercury Mirror

Grand Régence Style Mercury Mirror with gilded frame.

Original Mercury Glass made in the 19th Century.

Slight bow in frame.

Mercury mirrors are rare as their production was prohibited in the late 1850’s. Heating mercury to fix the silvery was considered too toxic to the craftsman.

Recognized by its silvered back, warm patina and tin like particles, capturing light in an inimitable way.
